At a time when the world appears to be overrun by darkness, confusion, negativity and self-loathing, Matt Westerman’s newly released EP Life Out Loud offers listeners a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Or more succinctly, a way out of the madness, at least for a little while. The EP is GROUNDBREAKING in the way that it champions the potential of the human spirit to confront and triumph over challenge and tragedy. More than just being a refreshing musical change of pace or a simple collection of feel-good songs, Life Out Loud makes it plainly clear that life is full of ups and downs. Westerman is an LA-based singer-songwriter who brings a unique and varied background to his music. In a sense, he’s a modern day Renaissance Man. While writing songs with a nod toward his background in education and psychology, he has broken new ground in the realm of contemporary popular music. What really sets Westerman’s music apart is its emphasis on what’s good, true and beautiful in life, as opposed to overwhelming darkness and despair.
As Matt himself states, “The record is about living in the present moment and taking a chance on a dream. The EP examines what it means to love who you are and not be afraid to fail. Creating this record forced me to take chances and face challenges that forced me well out of my comfort zone. In the end, I think it helped me grow into more of the person I want to be, and it was an experience I will never forget.”
With tracks like “One Fine Day”, “She’s More”, and “Don’t Give Up On You”, Life Out Loud is sure to win over admirers of the singer/songwriter genre. Its sound and feel call to mind the music of Jack Johnson. Westerman has succeeded in creating an original collection of songs that expertly move the listener from where they are to where they might rather be,
