CANAAN SMITH SETS A NEW TONE WITH HIGH COUNTRY SOUND – OUT NOW

STACKING HIGH PROFILE FEATURES IN FORBES,

AMERICAN SONGWRITER + MORE

CELEBRATED WITH A LIVE PERFORMANCE IN GATLINBERG, TN, (4/1)

NASHVILLE, TENN. (April 2, 2021) – Nearly six years in the making, Round Here Records’ PLATINUM Country star Canaan Smith is releasing today his highly anticipated album, HIGH COUNTRY SOUND – available digitally now.

“It just feels really rewarding to not only make music I’m proud of, but also do it in the way I’ve always wanted,” Smith explains. “I wrote every single one of these songs from the heart, and I couldn’t be more thankful that I get to put myself out there like this. When it’s all said and done, this album is special to me because it brings me home.”
Tapping into the rougher fringes of Country music with this new project, Smith mixes earthy sounds with an adventurous, hardscrabble sweetness. With 12 songs grounded in the rich dirt and woodsy romance of the American frontier, HIGH COUNTRY SOUND matches traditional instruments with a modern swagger, leaving American Songwriter praising the “acutely country” sound “reminiscent of George Strait’s early hits, but with a hill country twist.” The Virginian-Pilot also hails, “True to Smith’s vision, each track exposes another layer of the 38-year-old through tales both raucous and romantic, from his childhood all the way up to his newest role as dad.”

Raw and organic, but still built around feel-good hooks, this sophomore effort is a true evolution of Smith’s sound, first crafted on his acclaimed debut BRONCO (2015) – so much so that Forbes applauds Smith’s “newfound confidence” and “authenticity” throughout the project. Reaching new career heights, Smith’s credit as a producer is on all 12 tracks – solely producing eight, while co-producing the remaining four with Tyler Hubbard + Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line. Alongside Nashville songwriting mainstays Jim Beavers, Corey Crowder, David Garcia, Jared Mullins, and Josh Miller, the Virginia native also co-wrote every song on the album.
In addition to previously released fan-favorites “Colder Than You,” “Cabin In The Woods,” “Mason Jars & Fireflies,” and “Sweet Virginia,” HIGH COUNTRY SOUND features a standout collaboration with GRAMMY nominee Brent Cobb, “Catch Me If You Can” – a “full-throttle shot of energy” first heard exclusively on The Boot yesterday (4/1).
Celebrating the new release, Smith went live on the Visit Gatlinburg Facebook page last night from Gatlinburg, TN, playing the entire album from start to finish in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Check it out HERE.
