Royal Oak, Michigan (May 14, 2018) – Splice Magazine’s Cheyenne Comerford got to catch up with Madame Mayhem before the show in Royal Oak, MI tonight. See what they had to say…

Because I’m sure you get asked the same questions about Ready for Me all the time, I don’t want to do the same, so just tell me a little bit about it.

“The new album, Ready for Me, was co-written and produced by Corey Lowry. Some songs were also written with Clint Lowry and Troy McLawhorn. This album is very personal for me because I was writing it all in a very frustrating time and a lot of hard times I was going through. I always say that if anyone wants to know about Madame Mayhem, all they have to do is listen to Ready for Me, tracks 1-13 and they’ll get the idea. I’m really proud of it and think it came out really great! And people have been loving it so far, so I’m really thrilled!

How was the recording process for this album, being that it’s your third album? Anything different than how the other albums went?

“The really cool thing is that every time I go into the studio it’s done a little bit differently. Even every song is different; it’s not done the same way twice. Maybe someone has a musical idea that they email, or I have lyrics I want to have written down already – it’s always done a bit differently. It was a really fun and comfortable process, and most of it was done in Corey’s studio in Atlanta, GA, and it was great. As far as writing goes – I’m always writing and always thinking of ideas. Sometimes we’ll schedule it where I’ll fly down to the studio and we’ll come up with ideas, and sometimes it’ll just be a random “oh hey, I just thought of this, let’s write it”. You never know when inspiration will come.

How was it picking the songs that made the album?

“We knew how many we wanted on the album and these were just the ones that were really shining through to us and things that I really wanted to get the message out for like the positive message – that no matter what you’re going through, you can get through it. That is what I needed to hear myself, and wanted to have that influence on others, too.

How would you describe your sound?

“I would say it’s hard rock, hard-hitting music, with melodies that people can sing along to. I’m a singer, grew up classically trained, so singing is my thing. Not really screaming, but definitely hard-hitting.

If you could collaborate with anybody outside of your genre of music, who would it be?

“Ohhh, that’s a good one! I’d say Andrea Bocelli, actually. That’d be really cool!”

Do you have favorite places to tour?

“As much as I love writing, recording, and making music, my passion since I was born was performing and singing. So every time we’re performing on any stage of any kind, I’m happy. As long as we’re on the road and playing shows, I’m pretty thrilled!”

What do your days off typically look like?

“Showering, laundry, working on other things. I’m not really a fan of days off, I like to keep going. I’m from New York – so we’re always on the move.”

Do you guys have a pre-show ritual?

“What we usually do is blast some music. Right now we’ve been listening to Gojira. Just kind of rock out, stretch, and just have fun before we get out there”.

If you could bring back one dead musician, whether it was to play with them or even just watch their show, who would it be?

Chris Cornell because it feels like that just happened and I never got a chance to see him live. He was one of the most influential voices to me, from when I was very young. That needs to happen somehow, I don’t know how, but it needs to!”

Do you have a “bucket list” band you’d like to play with?

“There’s so many great bands out there and so many that I look up to. We’re about to play with Judas Priest in Europe at a festival (Hills of Rock Bulgaria) . But I’d say Metallica would be pretty cool because I just finally saw them live for the first time and they are one of my favorite bands!”
