The MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida, was ablaze with energy and excitement as the Zac Brown Band kicked off their “From the Fire Tour” on a sold-out first night of a two-night run. This extraordinary night promised a musical journey filled with heartfelt lyrics, incredible musicianship, and unexpected surprises.
The anticipation reached its peak as the venue plunged into darkness, and the audience’s cheers grew louder. Suddenly, the opening chords of “Make This Day” began to ring through the venue, Zac Brown walked out in front of the curtain and started playing the song. As the song progressed the curtain was dramatically lifted to reveal the band in all its glory. Zac Brown, the charismatic frontman, was now placed right where he belonged, right at the forefront.
The first set was a thrilling rollercoaster ride through the Zac Brown Band’s impressive catalog, featuring beloved hits like “Toes,” “Keep Me in Mind,” and “No Hurry”. The crowd’s energy was palpable, and it was clear that they were in for a night to remember.
A standout moment was the fusion of “Where the Boat Leaves From / One Love,” showcasing the band’s exceptional harmonies and their ability to transport the audience to a sun-soaked beach. “Goodbye in Her Eyes” tugged at heartstrings, and their cover of The Wood Brothers’ “The Muse” added a touch of versatility to the evening.
Surprises continued to abound as the band performed a stirring cover of King Calaway’s “When I Get Home” and they welcomed the members of King Calaway to the stage to help perform the song. When the band finished their performance of “Day That I Die”, everyone left the stage leaving the two drummers to take the spotlight, they traded intricate solos that captivated the audience with their rhythmic mastery.
“Jump Right In” and a raucous rendition of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” closed the first set on a high note, leaving the audience eager for more.
After a brief intermission, the Zac Brown Band returned to the stage for the second set, promising an even more eclectic musical experience. “Loving You Easy” had everyone on their feet, and a turbocharged version of the Charlie Daniels Band’s classic “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” had the crowd roaring with delight.
The band continued to dazzle with hits like “Beautiful Drug,” “Same Boat,” “Whatever It Is,” and the emotional “Colder Weather,” which included an interlude of “Take It To The Limit.” The combination of soulful storytelling and impeccable musicianship left the audience enchanted.
“Knee Deep” and an unexpected cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” showcased the band’s adaptability, followed by an evocative rendition of U2’s “With or Without You.” The night culminated with “Homegrown,” a perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable second set.
The encore was a spectacular blend of country and pop classics, featuring a mash-up of “Mountain Music,” “Chattahoochee,” and many more, creating a euphoric atmosphere that had the crowd dancing and singing along.
As the night drew to a close, the Zac Brown Band gifted the audience with “Margaritaville,” a heartfelt rendition of “America the Beautiful,” and finally, “Chicken Fried,” sending everyone home with a sense of fulfillment and pure musical bliss.
