Brooklyn, New York (May 5, 2018) – PopGun Presents the Moniker International Art Fair featuring Princess Nokia, Rap’s Riot Grrl, who brought her Deluxe World Tour 2018 to Elsewhere in Brooklyn, NY tonight!
At a packed Elsewhere space in Brooklyn, NY, the fans are eager to see Princess Nokia, a city native and undoubtedly one of the most important rappers of the year. She hadn’t played her home city since September of last year which makes the show one big homecoming party.
Destiny Frasqueri, aka, Princess Nokia, built up her fan base beyond the five boroughs of New York City with releases like “Metallic Butterfly”, her full length, Deluxe 1992, on Rough Trade Records last year, and the most recent and genre-bending release, A Girl Cried Red. She blends a perfect mix – honesty and occasional humor – in her songs and it’s not hard to see why people love her style so much.

At the beginning of her set, Princess Nokia laid out some ground rules for her show; “this is a safe space for P.O.C.s, women of all kinds, and LGBTQ people”. This “to the front” idea is what makes Princess Nokia one of the leaders in the female rap game today. From there she played a set mixed with songs from Deluxe 1992, like “Green Line”, “Bart Simpson”, “Tomboy”, “Brujas”, “G.O.A.T.” as well as a cover of Blink-182’s “I Miss You”
For the latter half of the show she brought out her full band, whose members include Elijah Rawk of Phony Ppl on guitar, Brooklyn producer, Tony Seltzer, on drums, and Eva Lawitts on bass to play her new EP A Girl Cried Red in full. As the fans energetically screamed along, Nokia had a smile ear-to-ear while both performing and as she accepted gifts from fans, such as a bracelet and a pinata. Needless to say, you did not want to be anywhere other than Elsewhere this weekend.
Fans in the New York Metro area will have to wait a little while longer to see Princess Nokia again as she will be touring in Europe throughout the summer.
