The concert kicked off with an energetic performance by the opening act, Rival Sons. The band’s bluesy and soulful rock sound served as a fitting prelude to the explosive evening ahead. The stage was set, the anticipation was electric, and as the lights dimmed, the haunting riff of “The Everlasting Gaze” shattered the air, instantly catapulting the audience into a realm of musical ecstasy. The iconic voice of Billy Corgan sliced through the night as the band unleashed their sound with unmatched force.

From there, the setlist took the crowd on a whirlwind journey through the band’s rich discography. The band followed things up with a brilliant and haunting cover of the  Talking Heads hit song “Once in a Lifetime”. “Doomsday Clock” and “Perfect” followed suit, painting a tapestry of sonic landscapes that kept the audience entranced.

A collective gasp swept through the crowd as the opening chords of “Disarm” resonated through the amphitheater. This intimate, stripped-down moment showcased the band’s skill in crafting songs that remain etched in the hearts of generations. “Today” and ” Ava Adore ” continued the journey, pulling the audience deeper into the immersive experience.

At one point most of the band left the stage leaving just Billy Corgan and James Iha. They traded their electric guitars for acoustic ones. As they both stood center stage Iha said to the Florida crowd laughingly said to the audience I don’t know how you deal with the humidity and the gators which elicited laughter from the crowd.  Corgan continued on saying that his father had retired to the Tampa area before he passed. He further said that usually I dedicate the next song to everyone here. But tonight I’d like to dedicate this song to my daddy and to all of you. Then just the two of them performed an intimate version of the classic song “Tonight, Tonight”.

The venue erupted in a chorus of voices as “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” began, a testament to the timeless impact of the Pumpkins’ music. The seamless transition into “Empire” and “Hummer” showcased the band’s versatility, from hard-hitting rock to contemplative melodies, leaving no emotional stone unturned.

As the night sky enveloped the amphitheater, the final segment of the concert approached, characterized by an electric atmosphere. “1979” sent a wave of nostalgia through the crowd, a collective reflection on a defining era of music. “Cherub Rock” brought forth an explosion of energy that reverberated through the venue, with the audience hanging onto every note.

And then, “Zero” arrived, a fitting climax to a night of intense sonic exploration. The venue pulsed with the raw energy of the song, as Billy Corgan’s voice reached its peak and the band’s chemistry ignited in a mesmerizing display of rock mastery.

As the final notes of “Zero” echoed into the night, the crowd erupted in cheers, a standing ovation for a band that has woven itself into the fabric of music history. The MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre had witnessed more than a concert; it had borne witness to a transformative experience that transcended time and space.

In the end, the Smashing Pumpkins proved once again why they are legends of the alternative rock scene. The night was more than a mere sequence of songs; it was a testament to the enduring power of music to bring people together, to evoke emotion, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
