Tonight the 2|42 Community Church, Pastored by Derek Alonzi, hosted a powerful Christian Rock concert. Located in Ann Arbor, MI this beautiful community center doesn’t officially open until its Grand Opening on December 2, 2018, yet was very successful in hosting two-time Grammy Award-nominated, GMA Dove Award-winning band Sanctus Real.
The show was opened by The Timber of Cedar, a Christian Rock band with Detroit roots.
Marrissa Parham (lead vox, keys), Sam Parham (bass, vox), Alex Rahill (guitar, vox), Andrew Grzyb (guitar, vox), and Eric Grzyb (drums) performed a solid seven-song set which featured a unique cover of the Stevie Wonder song Sir Duke. They closed their performance with F Sharp, a song that personified the bands’ strong musical backgrounds, namely the three guitars in their lineup.
Properly warmed up, the crowd welcomed Sanctus Real to a rousing ovation as they opened with their big hit Promises. Dustin Lolli, Chris Rohman, and Mark Graalman followed up with many other Christian music #1 hits, including the wildly popular Lead Me, as well as Whatever You’re Doing (Something Heavenly) and I’m Not Alright. The band also did a fine job with a first-time rendition of the Tom Petty cover, Free Fallin; before closing the night with yet another #1 hit Forgiven.
The vocalists for both bands paused to explain the spiritual motivations behind many of their songs and the special meaning they held; reminding the audience to hold onto their faith in the most trying of times. All in all, an inspirational night which gave every attendee many special memories to cherish!
