Detroit, Michigan (August 20, 2019) – Tonight, Matt Maeson upgraded from the Shelter to St. Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit for an incredible show with support from Your Smith on his The Day You Departed Tour.
To begin the night, Your Smith, also know as Caroline Smith, took the stage. Caroline moved to Los Angeles from Minneapolis once she signed to Pulse Recording and created her own sound mixing funk with R&B. She has a stage presence like no other and did not fail to entertain the room. Her set included her single “Wild Wild Woman”, a cover of “Hold On” originally by Wilson Phillips, and an incredible live loop track of her song “Bad Habit” off her debut EP, Bad Habit.
Next up singer/ songwriter Matt Maeson from Virgina Beach, VA. Growing up in a musical family, Maeson has been surrounded by music his entire life. He would travel with his parents who played in heavy-metal Christian bands performing in prisons and biker rallies. As time went on he began to discover artists like Johnny Cash, Jeff Buckley, and Kurt Cobain who (despite his parents approval) influenced his sound. Maeson released his first single, “Grave Digger” back in 2016 where he began to gain fame then his debut EP Who Killed Matt Maeson the following year. He then released his next Ep The Hearse in 2018 and his debut album Bank On The Funeral in April of this year.
With his raw voice and storytelling lyrics, he hits that spot in every person who listens that not many artists are capable of. Watching someone live like Maeson be so passionate about his art was truly inspirational and a rare trait to find in artists these days. His raw performance and unique voice captured the crowd his entire set. The crowd did not fail to disappoint as well, singing every word to every song and clapping along like it was their job. His set included some fan favorites like “Beggar’s Song” and “Tread On Me”, his hit song “Cringe” that is currently number one on Billboard’s Alternative chart, and a solo encore performing “Cliffy” and to end the night, a song with his band “Mr. Rattlebone”.
Overall, this was a show no fan would want to miss. Click here to get tickets to a show near you on the remaining dates of the tour and follow his social media below to stay up to date on future shows and new music.
