Breaking Benjamin + Skillet + Underoath + Fight the Fury March 15th at The Dow Event Center, Saginaw MI

Saginaw, MI (March 15th, 2019)

First band of the night was Fight the Fury, which is John Cooper and Seth Morrison’s (both of Skillet) new metal band/ side project. Of course I was running late because I wasn’t quite sure where I needed to go so I missed their first couple songs but it sounded great even from be the concessions. This is definitely a band to check out, especially if you are a fan of Skillet.

Next up was Underoath. I was so happy to finally get to see this band live and they did not disappoint! They opened up their set with “On My Teeth” and the crowd was going crazy! The rest of their set would be as follows: “Rapture”, “The Blue Note”, “Its Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door”, “Hold Your Breath” (first time played live), “Ihateit”, “Breathing In a New Mentality”, “No Frame”, “Writing on the Walls”, and finished off their set with “Sink With You”.  I ended up buying their latest album, Erase Me, and listened to it on my drive home after the show.

Time for Skillet! I love getting to see Skillet play live and know I am going to be able to get some awesome shots in and this time was no exception. They opened up their set with “Feel Invincible”. This also happened to be one of the few shows that Lacey Sturm is filling in vocals for Jen Ledger (who is on tour for her solo album) and Jarob Bramlett (of The Protest) filling in for her on drums. The rest of their set would be as follows: “Whispers in the Dark”, “Sick of It”, “Back From the Dead”, “Awake and Alive”, “Not Gonna Die”, “Hero”, “Dead Man Walking” (live debut), “The Resistance”, “Rise Up”, “Monster”, and finished of the set with “Rebirthing”.

Finally it was time for Breaking Benjamin to go on and the crowd was going nuts as the curtain dropped and they played an intro before moving into “Red Cold River”. These guys are one of my favorite live bands and its always a challenge to shoot photos because they typically keep their lights very minimal, but its a challenge I always look forward to. The rest of their set would be as follows: “I Will Not Bow”, “Never Again”, “Breath”, “Sugar Coat”, “Breakdown”, a medley of “The Imperial March / Cowboys from Hell / Smells Like Teen Spirit / Bohemian Rhapsody / Enter Sandman” and then a drum solo, “Sooner or Later”, “Blow Me Away”, “Tourniquet”, “So Cold”, “Angels Fall”, “Psycho”, “Failure”, “Until The End”, and “Torn in Two”. Before they played their encore, they brought up a bunch of people on stage to watch from there and specifically looked for as many kids to bring up there as possible. I always love when bands get the kids into it as much as possible so this was really cool to see the excitement on the faces of all the kids up there. They then played “Dear Agony”, and ended the night off with everyone singing along to “The Diary of Jane”. Breaking Benjamin is a show you don’t want to miss and the line-up of bands for this tour is incredible and I was lucky enough to be able to see the opening night of the tour. One of the best ways to spend a Friday night!
