Westland, Michigan (July 31, 2019) – I want to start out by saying that, “I am so glad that I finally got to see Blacktop Mojo.” After watching them cover the Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight,” (which now has almost 3 million views on Youtube), I was hooked. The Token Lounge was a great place to feature these two great bands. This is the second time I have seen Lullwater and they were just as good as I had expected. Lullwater formed in Athens, Georgia in 2007 and consists of John Strickland (vocals/guitar), Daniel Binnie (guitar), Roy Beatty (bass/vocals), and Joe Wilson (drums/vocals). With the styles of music being so similar between the pair, Lullwater was the perfect tour addition along with Blacktop Mojo.
Blacktop Mojo definitely lives up to the hype! They are also one of the most fun bands we have photographed due to their intense energy and cohesiveness. Based out of Palestine,Texas, the band was formed in 2012 and consist of Matt James (vocals), Nathan Gillis (drums), Ryan Kiefer (guitar), Matt Curtis (bass), and Chuck Wepfer (guitar). By far one of the best parts of the show was when Matt James and Matt Curtis went out to the center of the Token crowd, sat on bar stools and played an acoustic cover version of “In The Air Tonight” which had the packed house crowd singing in unison.
Lullwater along with Blacktop Mojo both played killer sets and not bands you want to sleep on. Better catch them while you can. It’s only a matter of time before you see them headlining major national tours!
