Our family loaded up and got on the road around 7 pm tonight. We got to hear the CMT Awards on the radio on the 9-hour trip down from Michigan to Tennessee. We finally arrived at our hotel just before 4 am Thursday morning, crawled into bed and slept all of four hours…
My day started off bright and early Thursday morning. I grabbed a breakfast sandwich across the street at Hardee’s and trekked from Hermitage to downtown Nashville to Music City Center to conduct several interviews that I had lined up.
Josh Gallagher was lucky #1 at 10:15 am; followed immediately by Adam Rutledge at 10:30 am. After a short break, I chatted with Kalie Shorr, followed by the humorous Uncle Si & the Sicotics. This trio had me in stitches from the get go!!! I immediately greeted Lexi Larsen afterward. Another quick break and interviewed Kyle Daniel.
Quick! Time to go grab some lunch while I can. The family picked me up and we traveled a few blocks over to Saint Anejo. It was a great choice! The four of us shared five tacos and it was more than filling. Time to get back to MCC for some back-to-back interviews from 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm. I welcomed Tim Rushlow, Tim Elliott, Sandra Lynn, Irlene Mandrell and Glen Templeton into my comfy booth.
I called it a night shortly before Terri, Tanya and Vince took the stage, headed back to the hotel to get some much-needed rest. But before doing so, while waiting for my ride, I trekked all over town to do some discovering. I spotted the Riverfront Stage, the Forever Country Stage……………………
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I traveled over to Buddy Lee Attractions on Music Row for my first interview of the day with the lovely Risa Binder. By 10 am I was back at Music City Center to conduct some more interviews. First up was Waterloo Revival; followed by Kyle Dillingham and the Horseshoe Band, Paul Bogart, Lucas Hoge, James Dupre, Cowboy Troy, and Kaylee Rutland, before grabbing a (not-so) quick bite to eat from across the street at Baja Sexto inside the Country Music Hall of Fame.
While waiting for my family to Uber me back to the hotel, I scoped out downtown nightlife a little. I caught the tail-end of James Carothers playing at The George Jones.
This chick is tired!! Night, y’all!!
First thing on deck is Trisha Yearwood at the HGTV Lodge. Afterward, I headed back over to my well-used booth at MCC to catch up with Matt Rogers and Karen Waldrup, before heading upstairs to catch one of the few performances I was able to attend – Garth Brooks at the CMA Spotlight Stage.
Sunday, oh, Sunday… I struggled to converse most of Saturday, and Sunday woke up with a non-existent voice. I pushed my two morning interviews to the afternoon in hopes that I would be able to talk by then. Unfortunately, I ended up having to reschedule all 11 Sunday interviews to phoners later in the week. To say that I was disappointed was an understatement.
The family and I checked out of the hotel and we made our way downtown to check out The Johnny Cash Museum and the Patsy Cline Museum. We toured downtown Nashville for a couple hours, in and out of the bars and other businesses. Even though I was sore, had no voice, and it was incredibly hot – we managed to have a good time. During this time we caught a bit of David Ball at Forever Country Stage, right before we got on the road to head home.
Special thanks to all the amazing folks I worked with – it was lovely to meet you and your clients!

THANK YOU for having Splice, Music City! Your southern hospitality was wonderful and refreshing. I can’t wait to get back to Nashville! Hopefully sooner, rather than later 😉 I am looking forward to actually covering some events at all the stages I didn’t get to catch this year – Chevy Breakout Stage, Radio Disney Country Stage, Nissan Stadium, Cracker Barrel Country Roads Stage at Ascend Amphitheater, and Nashville Acoustic Corner Stage. Just please tell Mother Nature to cool it down a bit for #CMAfest 2019!
Stay tuned for an updated #SpliceCMAfest2018 #Spotify playlist of what we caught!
